Preliminary Review: Bobbi Brown BB Cream SPF 35 PA +++

So inspired was I by my fellow blogsister domncroxd‘s review of Clinique’s Age Defense BB Cream SPF 30/PA+++ that I traipsed on over to my nearest Bobbi Brown counter here in Singapore to check out her take on the Asian market’s newly crowned can’t-live-without makeup staple: welcome to the family, Bobbi Brown BB Cream SPF 35 PA+++.

Hurrah, you might say. Yet another international brand joins the foray of BB creams flooding the market. But unlike dom who was disappointed by Clinique’s offering, I found myself pleasantly surprised by Bobbi’s.

To kick us off, here’s what Bobbi Brown Malaysia and Bobbi Brown Singapore‘s Facebook pages say this BB cream is all about:

Developed by Bobbi Brown for customers who want a product with serious skincare and makeup benefits, this all-in-one cream perfects and smoothes skin’s appearance—instantly and over time. Offered in three natural looking, skin tone correct shades, this lightweight, easily buildable formula evens out and gives skin a lit-from-within glow. Skin is filled with moisture as oil and shine are kept at bay. Plus SPF helps protect skin against UVA/UVB damage. In a short while, fine lines and wrinkles appear less noticeable, visible redness is reduced and pores appear more refined.

How to Use
Apply a thin, even layer using fingertips, sponge or brush. Can be used as a makeup base and/or lightweight foundation.

My first impressions and assessments occurred in this order:

• Texture: the cream came out of the tube quite thick and concentrated – a very small amount is all that’s needed – but spread and blended with surprising ease. I used only my fingertips to pat and blend outwards, and this worked quite well.
• Scent: much like the smell of your typical sunscreen, except far milder and less overpowering. Not at all an off-putting element, especially for women who are accustomed to using sunscreen as part of their daily routine. In spite of that, part of me wishes that this cream would smell a little more like Bobbi’s Tinted Moisturiser with SPF 15, which has a cucumber-fresh scent!
• Skin tone match: I tried the light variant, and it suited my fair yellow-undertoned skin beautifully. No patchiness, no blotchiness, no obvious contrasts to my natural skin colouring. This is one of the reasons I am such a huge Bobbi Brown fan – she (and her team) take such great care to get their colours to match up to as large a variety of differing skin tones as possible.
• Feel: slightly sticky at first. After a few minutes, once the cream had settled into the skin, the stickiness faded away and skin felt smooth to the touch, primed for makeup application. Also didn’t feel heavy, although I was aware of its presence on my skin surface, i.e. no airy-light, “as if your skin’s still bare” feel – but that didn’t faze me.

Pour conclure, just from my one-time test run, I have a strong feeling that this product is going to become another major Bobbi Brown hit, especially on the Asian market. Versatile, understated, does the job with finesse, protects from sun damage – it seems to tick all the right boxes! Also, the fact that it comes in three shades – light, medium and dark – makes it a far more interesting option than other BB creams that only come in one shade.

If you’re intrigued, head on over and give Bobbi’s take on BB cream a whirl for yourself! A 30ml tube of Bobbi Brown’s BB Cream retails in Singapore at SGD50.00 and in Malaysia at MYR150.00 (which appears to be a bit of an unfair tradeoff, unfortunately). However, I suspect that one tube would last you a considerable amount of time, as so little of this cream goes such a long way.
