Oh dear, as I’m swatching these chubby sticks and thinking how familiar they are to my favourite ever NYX’s Jumbo Eye Pencils, how embarrassed am I to discover that I’ve never reviewed the NYX ones! That shall be remedied soon.

But on to the actual review! Ahem.

So the Clinique Chubby Sticks Shadow Tint for Eyes are basically cream shadows in stick form, in the same shape as their Chubby Sticks for Lips. Everyone is raving about these but chubby sticks for eyes are not new! Not since I’ve had a boatload from NYX. But comparatively, how do they perform?

What the website says:

Sheer wash of lightweight, creamy colour slips on. Layerable and long-wearing. Versatile, too. Glide one on for a swift wash of colour. Contour with another to add depth, and yet another to highlight. There’s no need to stop at just one.  Appropriate for sensitive eyes and contact lens-wearers.

In my stash I have:

  • 01 Bountiful Beige- a silvery beige. It’s a warmer tint on the skin and a sheer wash of sparkles on the eyes.
  • 03 Fuller Fudge- a warm bronzy brown that can be used as a wash or layered on.
  • 07 Pink & Plenty- a  gorgeous cool tone pink with a gold sheen duochrome. Perfect for highlighting the inner eye.

And here’s a closer look:

They are extremely creamy and pigmented and glide on the skin smoothly, but also set fairly quickly which is great for my oily lids. Once there the colours don’t budge for 5+ hours.

I love using these on their own and it certainly saves makeup time in the morning, I slick them on straight from the stick and use a small shadow brush to blend outwards and soften the edges. I am also sure they can be used as primer for powder eyeshadows.

The best thing about these chubby sticks are that they are twistable, simply turn the bottom to expose more of the product. There is no need for sharpening unlike many others and therefore no wastage of product.

Unfortunately there isn’t a lot of it as shown in the image above! The packaging is also great, the colours are shown on the main body and the cap clicks on satisfactorily, so there is no fear about the cap falling off.

I’ve really enjoyed using these. There are a good range of neutral and coloured shades, mostly shimmery. Would have loved some mattes for easy use but the ones I picked up are super pretty!

Clinique’s Chubby Sticks for Eyes retail for AUD$35, SG$30, and USD$17 a pop depending on where you’re purchasing.
