Living in a tropical country, the age-old hair vs. humidity battle is a constant one – even for straight-haired girls who have kink-prone locks. I like fighting the good fight with a little help from a good hair serum to keep the tresses tame, and my weapon of choice these days is my Clairol Herbal Essences Smooth Lovin’ None of Your Frizzness Serum.
What’s the good, bad and the ugly when it comes to this cleverly named serum? Read on to find out!
Here’s what the website has to say about this product:
Damp days leaving you a little frizzy? Tell those fly-aways to get back into line with the None of Your Frizzness Serum. This leave-in smoothing treatment is infused with anti-humidity technology to help you get rid of those pesky little frizzies. After just one use, you’ll have a stunning smooth and sleek look with a totally touchable finish.
Does it live up to expectations?
First impressions first: this leave-in serum is meant to be infused with mandarin balm and pearls, but it sure doesn’t smell that way. It’s a clear, colourless, surprisingly fluid serum (even by silicone-based standards) that smells of (slightly artificial) fruit. I can’t put my finger on what fruit exactly, but mandarin it is not. Think of it as smelling a bit like the new Pantene shampoos and conditioners, except less overwhelmingly of honeydew. I’m not a huge fan of the scent, but I can look past it.
Once I got past the confusing scent though, I found myself becoming very fond of this serum. Its formula is quite light, non-greasy and non-oily so my hair doesn’t feel weighed down after tousling a bit of serum through it. A little bit of it goes a long way, too: one pump (on bad days, one and a half) is enough to sufficiently coat the tips of my hair and keep them from pointing in all sorts of funky directions all day.
I also found that applying this serum to freshly washed and dried hair before bedtime gives my hair a nice, naturally soft, flippable texture the next morning. Although the label explicitly says to apply the serum to dry hair, I tested it out on damp hair too and no catastrophic results ensued – in fact my hair was happily well-behaved after a while of air drying.
Also, price-wise, this serum is a great deal. A 75ml pump bottle set me back a pocket-friendly RM 18.90, which is pretty affordable if compared to other serums that claim to do the same job. I’m a huge fan of the L’Oreal Elseve/Elvive range of products, but upon closer inspection of their ingredient labels, the ever-popular Elseve/Elvive Smooth-Intense Anti-Frizz Serum contains the same primary active ingredient as None of Your Frizzness: cyclopentasiloxane (a type of silicone fluid commonly found in hair and skin conditioners).
Pour conclure, I’m a fan of None of Your Frizzness. Straight up, it does what it claims it’s supposed to do – keep flyaways and strays from flitting about. Plus, it’s not exorbitantly priced and is comparable to a variety of other serums on the market (at least ingredient-wise, which is the most important thing). All in all, a great staple product to have sitting around the house or bathroom!
