If you’re coming home from work, study, or a party, be sure not to just hop into bed and snooze! The nighttime cleansing ritual is extremely important, given that it’s the time when we give our skin and body a break from our hectic lifestyles, to heal and mend itself. When you’re clean, toned, moisturized, serumed, and/or masked, your body and skin are prepped for its renewal cycle. Imagine marinating in your own oils and gunky makeup and sweat : (!
So what are the skin care items best suited to help your skin feel its best in the morning? You’ve got cleansers, cleansing oils, makeup removers…the works. The important thing is to strip away all makeup residue without stripping away the natural moisture in your skin or hurting the delicate skin folds. I’ll be reviewing one of my current makeup removers today: The Bobbi Brown Instant Long-Wear Makeup Remover.
This makeup remover is designed to remove waterproof/long-wearing eye and lip makeup. It’s what I call a ‘dual-mix’ cleanser, as it’s got an oil base along with the usual water-like liquid. To use, shake well to mix up both liquids. It will foam slightly. Put it on a cotton ball or cotton pad, and lightly swipe away. Try to be gentle with your swiping – on delicate skin like eyelids, leave your cotton ball/pad on for three seconds or so, before gently swiping it in one direction. Refrain from doing a see-saw motion as you wouldn’t want to hurt the skin or create new wrinkles.
Several concerns may arise from oil-based makeup removers: Will it block my pores? Will it be effective in removing makeup? Will it leave an oily residue?
I find that this product does a very good job of removing my waterproof mascara and eyeliner in about 2 or 3 swipes. I’m normally quite gentle and I do a slow job instead of swiping it quickly. I don’t need a lot either – just one tilt of the bottle is enough for one eye. Yes, it does leave an oily residue as expected but it did not give me any oil seeds. What I normally do is pat around the eye area with a facial tissue paper. The usual cleansing will help get rid of the residue. It doesn’t sting the eyes and there is no fragrance at all. According to the website, it is also safe for contact lens wearers and has been dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested.
At RM85.00 for 100ml, it’s reasonably priced as you don’t need a lot and it works well. When I’m back from a party and I’ve got the full works – eyeshadow, liner, mascara, eyeshadow primer – I’d definitely need a few more swipes and maybe another tilt from the bottle, but my lids felt clean and comfortable afterwards. On the lips though, it feels a little oily but what you can do is pat with tissue to help reduce the oily residue.
I may repurchase this again as it definitely works better than any of the drugstore brands. It’s exceedingly gentle and for a big name makeup brand, it’s given me good results at keeping my eyelids and lips gunk-free and happy : ).
