As a longtime user of tinted moisturiser and BB cream (thank you Bobbi Brown), I am not usually into liquid foundations. However, when I saw Rimmel’s Match Perfection Foundation in 100 Ivory on a too-good-to-miss sale, I gave in to curiosity.
It turned out to be a very nice discovery indeed. It has since become my go-to foundation when I need a little more coverage.
Here’s what Rimmel has to say about Match Perfection:
Introducing a whole new Match Perfection, a makeup match like you’ve never seen before. Traceless coverage with Advanced Smart-Tone Technology reveals a perfectly flawless you, no matter what the light. From the bathroom, to work, to the pub, your natural colour never changes. Completely conceals imperfections with no foundation line, no makeup mask. Enhanced with Sapphire Radiance for an illuminating glow that never falls flat. Natural, flawless coverage with a fresh finish. Lasts all day.
Big claims. Plus, their poster advertisement for Match Perfection features the gorgeous, flawless-skinned, luminous-eyed Zooey Deschanel gazing at us with those sky-blue peepers.

Here is what 100 Ivory looks like against my NC20 skin:
And here it is swiped out a little:
Just for comparison’s sake, here it is positioned between my two staples: Bobbi Brown Tinted Moisturiser SPF15 in Light Tint, and Bobbi Brown BB Cream SPF35PA+++ in Fair.
Match Perfection in 100 Ivory appears to combine the yellow undertone of the tinted moisturiser and the coverage of the BB cream in one product.
Here is what it looks like blended in:
The shade blends in beautifully with my natural skin tone while providing medium coverage. It doesn’t look cakey or flat, and the resulting look is natural and almost dewy. The little bit of SPF is a nice touch as well, although maybe a little more sun protection wouldn’t hurt
It also has a mild fruity scent that dissipates a couple of minutes after applying. It doesn’t bother me, but it may bother some of you – so do check
The one gripe I do have about this foundation is that it takes a little while to set. After smoothing it out, it becomes tacky for about five minutes before settling in. Dom tells me this does not happen with her favourite Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum liquid foundation. I think Singapore’s humid and warm air doesn’t help makeup set in general, though – so I am quite forgiving in that regard.
Apart from that, though, I am very happy with this foundation. Its colour matching power is solid, it lasts for hours, doesn’t slough off in heat and humidity, and feels lightweight on the face. Plus, it does not contribute to blocked pores or additional breakouts. Score!
Oh – and I have to commend Rimmel for their packaging of this foundation. It’s housed in a nice, sturdy glass bottle with a pump that delivers measured amounts of liquid each time. I like this a great deal because it’s hygienic and allows for the user to control the precise amount of product they dispense. No “oops, I may just have squeezed out too much” moments like you would have with a tube.
30ml of Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation retails in Malaysia for about MYR 46.00, but I purchased mine at only MYR 23.00 (!!!) on sale. It comes in 16 different shades, but I don’t think all of them are available in the region.
