There are times that all a girl wants is a reliable, inexpensive, does-the-job product for everyday use. For me, that product is absolutely a good shower gel or body wash – and I think I may have found a HG product here.

Ladies, je vous presente Johnson & Johnson’s pH 5.5 Nourishing Body Wash with Almond Oil.

There are myriad of reasons why I love this product. Here they are in no particular order:

Formulation: As most of you may already know, healthy skin is naturally slightly acidic in pH. Most soaps are either neutral (pH 7) or alkaline (generally, the more slippery the soap is, the more alkaline it is). I don’t really like highly alkaline body washes because they leave my skin feeling tight and uncomfortable. I like that this body wash’s pH 5.5 formulation works well at cleansing skin thoroughly while leaving it feeling conditioned and ultra-soft afterward. Clean skin doesn’t have to come hand in hand with abrasive products, ladies!

Scent: This is one of the main reasons I initially purchased this variant over their 2 in 1 and honey versions. I love the fresh, nutty, sweet scent of almond oil, and it is ever-present in this body wash. The scent also lingers lightly on the skin after showering, which is a lovely little bonus.

Performance:  I use one pump with my old faithful Body Shop bath gloves (rave review to come!) and it’s more than enough for a good, thorough scrub-down. It lathers up quite well, but not excessively considering it contains sodium laureth sulfate. My skin always feels exceptionally smooth and nourished after using this body wash, probably thanks to the body wash formulation being soap-free and therefore non-drying, and also due to the almond oil content, which helps retain skin’s moisture.

Price: This is perhaps the best value body wash I have ever used. At only SGD 5.75 for a 750ml pump bottle, this stuff goes a very long way. I have been using mine for a month and looking at the bottle, I think I might have at least another 6 months’ worth left to power through! And this is very, very good news for my skin and my wallet both 🙂

Pour conclure, I am exceedingly happy with this recent discovery. This body wash is going to become one of my lifelong, faithful bathtime companions – and all this from a brand that we’ve all been using since we were babies. If you’re looking for a body wash that performs consistently and doesn’t cost a fortune, look no further!

  1. i love this, and so does my sister! we have gone through countless bottles of this 😀 we usually alternate between honey and almond oil, it’s really quite difficult to say which we like better 😛

if only they come up with a body lotion or handcream with the exact same scent…

    • Hey Plue! Glad to find a kindred spirit 🙂 This stuff is excellent, although I have to admit that I prefer the way this one smells to the honey variant! We’d be all over a lotion or hand cream if J&J ever decided to issue one. Maybe we should drop them a hint…

  2. I really want to purchase this product but I don’t know where to get it from or how much it costs I notice that the dates of the posts are recent but I have been told that Johnson’s don’t make 5.5 bodywash anymore I have used a 5.5 product before and the product really improved my skins appearance many thanks .

    • Hi Sharon,

Where are you based out of? J&J still makes pH 5.5 products. As mentioned in the post, I bought my 750ml bottle for SGD 5.75.

  3. Hey Suan! Sorry for the late response. Another item both of us seem to love. I’ve gone through it all – Almond Oil, Honey and even the plain extra moisturising one. In Msia, I usually pick up the huge 1L bottle at RM13.90. You’re right about it being a basic, reliable, value for money HG!

    • Hey Syen – that makes it cheaper than my blue J&Js. Maybe I’ll give this one a go since you both are raving about it 🙂

    • There’s a 1L bottle available? No way. I haven’t seen that around here at all, only the 750ml bottle which is hefty as is! I’ll keep an eye out for it, thanks Syen 🙂

  4. Hi Ksuan thanks for your reply I live in England and I can’t find this product anywhere. I rang Johnsons helpline and was told that the 5.5 product that was available here up to last year was taken off production because it was not a popular line !!! so to see the fact that it is available in other countries is puzzling but gives me hope that it may be sold over here one day soon !!! If there is anyone who has seen this product for sale in England recently please let me know where to purchase it. Many thanks.Sharon x
