Review: Clinelle Deep Cleansing Gel

I’ve blogged about Clinelle before (sunscreen and compact powder)and it’s one of my trusty budget skincare brands that I go back to whenever I feel the need to go on a monetary diet. I had the whole 3-step range and eyecare, as well as the scrub. So here starts my review on Clinelle’s Deep Cleansing Gel:

Clinelle has undergone a facelift and their visual designs are much more attractive. Apologies as I was unable to find the appropriate image – however, you’ll be able to find them in most drugstores now.

Clinelle’s cleansing gel reminds me of Clinique’s liquid soap formula. It’s clear, fragrance-free and lathers up very well. I do find that I need to squeeze out a little more than what I’d normally use from Clinique to get some major lathering going on, but it still cleans very well, I assure you!

The great thing about Clinelle products is that they’re free of skin irritants such as mineral oils, fragrances, and lanolin. Clinelle emphasizes the use of natural ingredients such as lavender extract to help soothe the skin and repair it. With the cleansing gel, I find a faint facial-like fragrance that reminds me of Dermalogica products – no surprises there, as both brands are brought in by the same company.

The important thing about gel facial cleansers, besides the cleaning power, is the ability to clean without drying up the skin. I recommended Clinelle to a colleague of mine who had dry skin and she loved it! For my oily skin, I loved the silky clean feeling and although it didn’t do much to mattify my skin, it was essentially a good cleanser. It also helped reduce my skin sensitivity somewhat, and I could see that my skin took in new products without much breaking out.

Clinelle claims that the gel also helps to protect against environmental aggressions and promote skin healing. I’m not totally sure about that as you wash off the cleanser anyway, but overall it did the basic stuff as promised: cleanse, soothe and calm skin, and reduce skin sensitivity. It’s also dermatologically tested.

At RM33.90 for 100ml, this is definitely a cheaper option to Dermalogica and Clinique. My colleague calls it her Dermalogica dupe, and as for me, it’s not a Clinique dupe but comes close enough as a cheaper option. It sometimes goes on special at all drugstores, and the cheapest I’ve come across is RM28+. Definitely a good drugstore buy and worth trying out.

As with most cleansers, I wouldn’t recommend using this on its own to remove make-up as it’s not strong enough. Please use a separate make-up remover/cream cleanser to double cleanse! :)

    • Hi Aria, thank you for stopping by. The whole range (deep cleansing gel, moisturizer and toner made for oily skin) helped keep my skin calm so even when I had zits, it went away fairly quickly. My younger brother swears by Clinelle’s blemish gel, which I haven’t tried yet. Maybe you can give that a go too :) .
